Calvin has a cold and an ear infection and won't eat. He is really fussy because his throat hurts and won't eat. He won't sleep because he is hungry, and the cycle continues. Any suggestions on getting him to eat?
Have you tried doing a sinus rinse before trying to nurse him? We had this problem once with Jack, and the doctor pointed out that when he was nursing he probably couldn't breath very well because his nose was all pressed up against me. Have you done a sinus rinse before? Mix a cup of water with about 1/2 tsp. of salt and a pinch of baking soda (or you can just buy nasal spray at Wal-Mart for like $3 - called Little Noses, but there's a store brand too). Use an eye dropper to squirt a little bit up his nose. He will, of course, hate this. Wait one minute, and then suck out that nostril with a bulb syringe. Repeat on the second nostril. If you can't get him to hold still, try this: Sit down on the floor, with your legs spread eagle. Lie him on his back so his head is between your thighs. Tuck his arms underneath your thighs. He will hate this too, but it will get the job done and hopefully help him breath better! Sorry if you already know all these things, but it's what's worked for us :). We've also found running a cool mist humidifier in Jack's room while he sleeps to be very, very helpful in getting rid of the cold! Hope this helps! If it doesn't make sense, you can email me, and I'll try to be more sensical :). rebeccaoharris@gmail.com
You could try saline drops! PS Becca is totally in my ward here, I'm her visiting teacher! And we think we met each other at BYU a long time ago. You guys should totally come visit us :)

sometimes my kids will drink pumped milk from a bottle when they are having a hard time nursing because they are sick.
