We have a mouse...

Ok, we don't really have a mouse, Calvin just decided to have a snack while I was making lunch the other day.

I haven't been updating the blog much in the last year, mainly because I don't feel like there is much going on. I've realized today, that's just how my life is, and I like it that way! I hate being so busy I can't even think, and this is that calm before the new baby storm (getting used to not sleeping again, and whatever else I don't really know is going to happen with her arrival). With that being said, Calvin and I have been taking it easy and just enjoying our time alone each day. What do we do all day? Most of our days include reading books, coloring, playing at the various play areas in our housing complex, cooking, cleaning and crafting. Each day we do some other random errand or something, but these are our constant activities.

Calvin wants to read all the time. He brings a library book to me, plops down on my lap and we read it. Then he does the same thing with every library book and then each book that we own. This takes about an hour, but he is always disappointed when we don't have any more books to read. I think we'll have to make more library trips.

After reading time, he wants to color. We are running out of coloring book pictures to color. It is pretty fun to color with him. His coloring is still crazy, but now he colors over the picture he wants to color instead of just coloring random lines all over the page. When he gets tired of his coloring books, we get paper out and he tells me what to draw, and then he colors over that. This too takes up about an hour of our morning, and then he'll do it one or two more times throughout the day. If we are outside, all he wants to do is color with chalk.

There are little parks throughout our housing complex, and they are all fun for different reasons. He especially enjoys playing with the abandoned toys (bikes, mini-tramps, cars, play kitchen, and chalk). This has been a nice way for me to meet other people and get some social interaction. I am slowly making friends, but that usually takes a few months to really feel comfortable, and to have one or two really good ones. We have also found some neat parks in the city. One of them is a few city blocks big with many play structures, a lake, a bike trail and lots of neat birds that I've never seen before. The other one we like is near the library and it has sand and a lot of grass to run around in. I'm slowly learning how to get around the city.

I've been enjoying cooking again, now that it doesn't make me want to throw up. I try to make dinner every night by 6, this hasn't happened much since January, so it's been really nice to have a reliable routine.

I also haven't done any crafts since May, so it's been fun to do little things here and there just to relax. I've been working on my wreath I mentioned in the last post. We'll see about that. I've been using an old sheet that had a tear in it, and cardboard, so if it doesn't look good, I'm not too concerned because I didn't spend any money on it. I had a black box thing that goes on the wall, and I wanted to use it to add a splash of color to the wall, so I glued some random scrapbook paper that I had around to it, put mod podge over it and then some glossy accents. It isn't much, but it added some much needed color to the room (everything is so white/creamy). It was supposed to go in my living room, but I decided I don't want to do blue in here, so it is now in the kitchen. I may do the same thing to my other one, with a different color. I have some left over fabric from another project, so I'm attempting to make a skirt or two for the baby as well.

Brian is adjusting to being back in school. He hasn't had classes for a year now, since he was working on his thesis, and for the last 2 months, he has been home all day with no job. It's been kind of weird to not have him around all the time, but it's been really fun for him, and kind of nice for me to get some alone time. He likes his classes so far and his TA job. Calvin sure misses him when he is gone. He asks for him all day, and I have to find ways to distract him from the subject of dad.
