Rebecca's Yucky

I make up a lot of songs to make Calvin laugh. Today, Rebecca spit up all over the front of my shirt, and I sang a song about it. I sang to the tune of clementine "Rebecca Harris... she is yucky..., etc." I included a bit about her spitting, pooping and peeing and made some rhymes. Calvin thought it was really funny and started to sing along. Later tonight, I asked him to sing it to Brian. and this is what we got. "Rebecca, miss Rebecca boo, she is yucky, she pees in her diaper and poops on her pee." I thought it was really funny and worth sharing. I really wish I would update the blog more, but I don't really think about it very often. We are still here. Brian is enjoying his classes. Right now he is taking a class on families and inequality that he enjoys. He wants to study immigration and race, but they keep canceling the classes right before. I like that we live so close to campus because he comes home to eat lunch a couple of days a week. Today I needed to run a few errands, so we walked to the store and post office and met him for lunch. He enjoys playing with Calvin in the backyard every night after work and dinner.
Calvin finally reached that terrible twos phase everybody talks about. Some days he just cries for an hour or two in the late afternoon non-stop. If I try to help him it just gets worse. The hardest thing right now is that he is in that between stage of dropping a nap. He still needs the nap to function, but he doesn't want to take one. I'm starting to figure out what kinds of things set him off, when and how to respond, etc., so it's getting a little easier for me to deal with. This last week has been pretty good though. We went three whole days without a single meltdown! We went to Texas this weekend for Andy's (Brian's little brother) wedding in Dallas. Calvin was way excited to ride on the airplane. He had a window seat on both flights. On our flight home, he was so excited to get on the plane. We were standing in line to board and he kept trying to go ahead of me and got very upset when I held him back. Our seats were near the back of a really big plane for our flight home, and he didn't like that the people in front of us in the line were putting their carry on bags away because they were in his way. My favorite thing was that before reaching our seats, he climbed up and sat in almost every empty seat he saw. When we landed, we were on the runway for a while. He saw a blue southwest plane land and he said (in an envious voice) "next time I want to ride on THAT blue one!"
Rebecca is growing up so fast! Calvin was a crier when he was a baby. He cried from 8 to 11 every night, and I didn't know how to help him. I was NOT excited to have a baby in the house, because I thought she would be the same, but I was pleasantly surprised. She hardly ever cries, and is always smiling and interacting with us. I love how chubby she is! My favorite part about her little body is that she has dimples on her knees. Rebecca never ceases to amaze me. I thought for sure the pressure change from taking off and landing would bother her. She fell asleep 3 out of the 4 landing/takeoffs, and didn't make a peep! When we landed back in California, she did cry quite a bit, but this trip was a pretty pleasant trip for us.
I am doing well. I'm getting used to having 2 kids. My biggest challenge isn't adjusting to 2 kids as much as my back pain. I've had some pretty bad pain since October. I thought that it would get better after giving birth, but it actually got worse, and just when I seem to be on the mend, I hurt it again. Right now, I'm just working on getting my core stronger and strengthening my body a little more. Hopefully that works. Because of that, a lot of exercise that I try to do hurts. They closed the pool, so I haven't been able to swim much. I was doing bikes at the gym and lifting a little here and there, but I hurt my knee, so now the bikes get to me. It looks like for now, most of my exercise will have to be walking, so I decided that 3 days a week, I will walk to a park that is at least a 30 min one way walk, and then let Calvin play for a bit. It's been going pretty well. I get exercise and fresh air, and Calvin gets to play a lot. I've been feeling a bit cooped up lately. I want to take a class or volunteer somewhere once a week or so, but I haven't really put much thought into it.
This was kind of a random post, but now you have somewhat of an update on our doings lately.

i hate that no-nap afternoon crying. i feel like on the days i give Bo a nap, he cries when he wakes up since it's usually late-afternoon and he's just out of it, and on the days he doesn't nap, he cries cause he's tired. glad that rebecca is such a good baby! cute pictures too. we miss you guys.

I love the update! I'm sorry about the back pain. I hurt my back after Christian and it was horrible until it healed. I hope things heal quickly, if you get a good back strengthening work out let me know, I still need to find something good for mine.
